Valentino Menswear Fall 2012
It’s been a long time coming. For a few seasons, Valentino collections have been relegated on my list. Particularly on the womenswear side, design has been boring. However, this menswear collection is a nice change of pace. After much waiting, there is finally something to talk about.
This seasons offerings showed a lot of confidence on the part of the designers. There is a clear look: sporty, streamlined, and minimal but still traditional. The occupational role I gleaned from the pieces was the government worker, who, sporting a smartly designed cape in the collection’s signature fabric, carries out his responsibilities. This vision is a bit silly, but it captures the essence of this collection. While the slimmer proportions are obvious more youthful, the function seems very traditional. There are well-cut, minimal clothes for men.
The detail of the collection was also phenomenal. These special additions were very small, but they were also important. The straps on the capes and the variation of fabric and texture made this collection notable on my list for this season.
