could I ask you a question about the Columbia app? I have no clue what to say for the Why Columbia question because I love the school because of all the seemingly generic reasons but I don't know how to word it to make it seem original and personal. Do you have any tips?

Think about the reasons why you love the school, and write about that.

You shouldn’t try to make it seem original and personal. Your essay should be original and personal. So just write about something you know and tie it into Columbia. I lived on Long Island until I was 10, and I knew why I loved New York. So I wrote about Columbia’s location in relation to my career and intellectual interests. I added in general information about the core and liberal arts for a sentence or two, but I largely stuck to what I knew and loved about Columbia’s location.
